After graduating Exeter University with a BA in Geography and a Masters in Tourism Development and Policy, I put my studies into action joining a well-known villa holiday company. Like many others, the business had successfully grown from a small owner-operator start-up, to a large-scale operation, but had never really considered who its competition was; what they were offering; or indeed what the consumer wanted. In response I managed a programme of market research covering competitor analysis, customer demand and aspiration and satisfaction. The results formed an integral part of the company’s business strategy and destination selection moving forward.
I continued my career in travel and tourism, promoting a Kent destination to visitors and providing support to local businesses. My role included website management, copywriting, print production and event management.
Employed at national tourism level for a number of years, I developed a strong understanding of the public sector and structure of the visitor economy as a whole. My focus here was to deliver information and advice to tourism businesses through online and offline resources, including an industry website and eNewsletter, printed publications, social media and events. To enhance my knowledge, I studied for an Institute of Direct Marketing Certificate in Business-to-Business Marketing.
I gained further commercial experience at an owner-operator outdoor fitness provider, managing a member acquisition marketing programme which encompassed both online and offline promotions.
Aside from my business, I am always keen to stay active; I have been a member of my local badminton club for over 20 years and play in both mixed and ladies teams. I enjoy exploring the Kent countryside with my dog, as well as pilates and skiing. I am also a keen tourist! I love day trips and holidaying in Britain, discovering the variety of experiences on offer.
